I've been musing over the Project Runway season finale for a few days, and I keep coming back to one thing: How could Kinley be so clueless? She's a basically talented designer with some good ideas, but has she lived under a rock for the past three years? Well, judging on manners alone I suppose we'd have to assume she has been. But how could someone who purports to love fashion refuse to keep abreast of its trends? And then be insulted when she's called a copy cat. Let's take a look, shall we?

Exhibit A: The Wedding Gown
On the left we have the McQueen gown from his Fall '08 collection and Kinley's bridal gown on the right. Kinley's looks great until you notice the fine construction of the McQueen gown and how much more smoothly the feathers fit the bodice and the skirt. It makes Kinley's looked ragged and overworked.

Exhibit B: The Balenciaga Catastrophe

Pictured above is Kinley's construction. A strange creation involving rope and painted fabric. Below is the very peculiar Balenciaga outfit that Jennifer Connelly tried so hard to make work a couple of season ago. If you merge Kinley's two dresses into one. It bears a striking resemblance to the original. And yet, she claimed she'd never seen these.

Maybe, I'm not studying enough, but it seems like Kinley, an aspiring designer, should know a little bit more about fashion trends than an aspiring lawyer.
