The Big Snip

big_sleepUnfortunately, this isn’t a parody of The Big Sleep, the classic film noir with Bogie and Bacall. That would be fun.

No, this post is to inform everyone of a decidedly un-fun event. As of today, December 5th, 2011, Mr. Posner is no longer “intact.”

P1020586Posner isn’t happy about this news, either, as anyone can plainly see. He’s a chewer, so he’ll have to wear the butler collar (the lamp shade) for at least 7-10 days until the stitches dissolve, and he’s barred from running, jumping, and wrestling during that time, some of his favorite activities. We can take the collar off when we go for walks or can watch him very closely, but he’ll have to wear it even when he sleeps. Poor Posner.

P1020579So let’s remember some happier Posner days and hope that there will be more ahead soon. Here’s Posner celebrating next to our recently felled Christmas tree. He was a terror out at the tree farm, charging through the muddy rows of firs looking for… who knows what? Whatever it was, I don’t think he found it, but he seemed to have a good time, anyway.

P1020559Here’s Posner caught in the act of pilfering an entire sack of dirty laundry. He may be only half retriever, but he’s all retriever if that makes any sense. Shoes, socks, underwear (definitely underwear), if you leave it where he can reach it, he’s going to drag it back to his “place,” a towel situated between the kitchen island and the dining room table.

Finally, here’s a shot of Posner waiting for me to put the camera down and chase him around the couch.P1020560 “Keep away” has become his new favorite game. Basically, it consists of him picking up a toy, walking into our field of view, looking cute, and waiting for us to chase him. Then we do laps around the couch with occasional detours around the dining room table or island.

I’ll leave you with another Posner, our fuzzy puppy’s namesake, Judge Richard Posner. Xandra may have already sent this to some of you, but it’s too good not to share and proof that there is indeed humor in the practice of law. Judge Posner observes the similarities between the behavior of attorneys and of flightless birds.

I wonder if Judge Posner felt anything re: The Big Snip since he obviously has a cosmic alignment with the fur version of himself. Perhaps he is penning a caustic but amusing, and illustrated, response as I speak. If he is still capable of striking that particular note, that is. What have you done?
